Update on my garden!!

Hi Everyone! Well, I went on vacation for a week and couldn't believe how MUCH my garden grew in that time!! I'm pretty excited! I thought I'd post some progress pictures for fun! :D

How does your garden grow? Well, mine grows like this:

AND today, July 8, 2011

My first tiny little pepper!

Lots of yellow squash growing now!

so far the "Marigold/beneficial bug/we love birds" organic way seems to be working. I don't see too much leaf damage yet!

The CUTEST head of broccoli ever! (yes, I know I'm a tad weird..... )

Wow! You're doing something right. :) What kind of sun does that spot get? Is it partial sun, a few hours a day?

When you say "spot" are you referring to the whole garden? The front half recieves full sun from early morning to midafternoon, about 8 hours a day. The back half is shaded by a tree and recieves about 5-6 hours of full sunlight in the morning then gets shaded. From midafternoon to sunset the garden gets dappled sunlight on and off depending on the time of day. I was concerned about the back part not getting enough sun when I choose the spot, although in my yard it was the best possible spot, and the back part that receives less sun definitly has slower growth. I put the cool weather crops, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, peas, back there. Although I have broccoli on almost every plant, I have yet to see any cauliflower form. :-( My guess is that the plants in the back are doing ok, but would be doing much better with a few more hours of sun.

You've made some serious progress, MTGardengal! Your tomatoes are looking especially lovely. I thought about you when Exxon spilled all those tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the Yellowstone. Here in Casper, we get our water from the North Platte; where do you get yours in Billings?

One word on the peas: Those are actually a fall crop up here. I start mine in July because they seriously don't like the heat and can really handle the cold. If you have some more seeds, you might consider putting those on your list for fall planting :)

Thanks Stella1751!

We, city of billings, get our water supply from the yellowstone river. But I've never heard any warnings regarding our water supply to our homes, so I'm assuming all is good in that area.....

thanks for the advice about the peas! I think I will replant them. Question: the heat of july and august doesn't bother them while they are sprouting?

If you plant your peas mid-July, even earlier, they won't bloom until the end of August or the beginning of September. The last time I grew peas, I started them on July 8. They produced through October and even made it through a couple of snows without being covered.

Great job! Thanks for showing us the growing process. The broccoli is indeed very cute, I would want to save it than eat it, haha.
