Burning plastic and soil

Hi guys!

I'm planning on moving into my childhood home, where there is already an established garden. However, I have some concerns about using it in its current state. Many years ago my next door neighbor would burn plastic leftover from projects. The whole neighborhood would fill with awful smoke, and the police never showed up in time to catch him  . Should I be doing anything with the soil to improve its health? I'm planning on making raised garden beds, but is that enough?

If he wasn't burning in the space you plan to garden on, I expect the issue is moot. "Years ago" being the prime quote of yours I'm basing that on.

I suppose if you have enough money, you can test for about anything, What that 'anything' should be, I have no idea.

Lets hope smarter writers notice this thread, your concerns are valid.

Here's a *bump* to the top of the page.

I will start with a question. Are you uphill or down hill from the neighbor?

The land is pretty level, with his burn space (from ~10 years ago) about 20 feet from the garden.

You are probably good to go. If it sets your mind at ease, get the soil tested.

I would be a little more concerned if you are down hill from neighbor.
