MORELLO CHERRIES

Hi bought a couple of Cherry trees from Lidl the other day ...£10.00 for two  . Planted them out making sure there was no air in between the roots as norm feed with some water and growth help, all ok. But the other night we had a really cold night and snow is predicted this weekend. Will they die on me now or could I do something to maybe keep them warm. Maybe by putting straw or a fleece type cover, like you put on your fruit in the summer to stop bad insects getting on your fruit etc. Or could I put a bin bag around the root area :)

Hello, PABLOMERSEY. Welcome to the forum. it's been a cold March
in the Chicago area too. I checked in the Sunset Western Garden Book
and your Morello cherries should be fine. They are cold hardy even in
some of the Alaska zones. What I would do is mulch well over the rootballs.
This should help them get over the brief cold snap. Enjoy the cherry pies,
my favorite.
