My yams are flowering, do I need to do anything?

I walked by the garden and saw these pretty purple flowers, they were my yams. I had no idea they were gonna flower. Does the flowering indicate that they're ready to be dug up? Or is it just pretty, and I get a nice show?
I love all the little surprised the garden offers.
