Green bean support

Hi all,

It just never occurred to me to have support for my green bean plants. I noticed lately that they sag a lot when I water them. Even the weight of the water is too heavy for them, so it seemed like they needed a support of some sort. I read a few articles, and they said that the plants do! My green bean plants are about 5 inches with large leaves now. Is it safe to insert bamboo sticks now? If it is, any tips on doing it with minimal damage to roots?

Mines look like they grow straight up. I'll have to look on the seed package to see what the species name is.

MG gave you some good advice. I've never had to stake bush beans but with some heavy rains, mine too would sometimes flatten out a bit for a day or 2 then recover.

Check the back of the seed packet and it should tell you whether they are bush or vining type beans. I also like to plant bean plants as close to one another as I can so they can help support each other with their density.
