The grapes look beautiful! :D
They will be such a treat when ready to harvest. I hope the birds don't think so too.

I had a robins nest in my honeysuckle arbor. The three chicks have already fledged and left the nest and no doubt have joined the others in raiding the strawberry patches. But we harvested enough and don't mind sharing for the most part, thoug I prefer that they take the smaller berries and not the anticipated big ones....

Did you mention those yellow thistles before? What part do you eat? Are they like the artichokes that you eat the flower bud? They are very ornamental in flower. Sunny yellow. 8)

I leave them that way until they are mature.Birds are not my problem, but wasps. These eat themselves and empty the grapes in several days.

We eat the plant only when it is little. She have flowers because I have left her for seeds.
This plant also grows wild and fed a great many people after the Spanish civil war, when there was famine.

Gosh, I was up early and decided to check the garden sites. I'm sure glad I did. I just spent 30 minutes reading this thread, from beginning to end. What an enjoyable way to start the day! Now it's light here in Vemont, and I can more fully enjoy my morning garden routine having been fully energized, entertained and educated by reading Julio's posts.

Hi Deborath.
No. I don't.In this area we don't fry the green tomatoes.only we fry red tomatoes. My wife and me are surprised to hear to it.
There is a film that is called thus(fried green tomatoes),but I have never seen it.

For the english speakers (note, I am natively from Mexico so I was explaining Mexican culture and dishes in the comment) here is a translation:

we call green tomatoes in Mexico "tomatillos", we use them to make a salsa we call "salsa verde" or green salsa, which is basically ground up peppers and green tomatoes, usually put in the blender. The peppers often used are "chiles poblanos" or "chiles serranos"

we use this salsa to eat all sorts of dishes mostly in traditional mexican foods like tacos, tortas, etc, but I personally love it in even rice / chicken / and other dishes... its for you to experiment

Can someone give me the name of the machine that Julio is using and how much they usually cost? That seems way too neat and useful.

Being small and electric, it's probably just a shredder. Many small units that have a gasoline engine are a combination chipper / shredder.

I own this unit.
