I bought some assorted 6 packs of annuals from Home Depot's gardening center last weekend and planted them out with my vegetables. I bought pansies, marigolds, impatients, alyssum, and dianthus.

They all looked great to start, but as the week has gone on, the Marigolds have looked worse and worse. Here are some pictures of what they are looking like:

I have them planted in three different locations, in the garden, in my flower bed, and two left overs in a tupperware container of potting soil on the porch. They all look the same, so I'm assuming it must be a disease/pest of some kind and not the soil/location/water.

I have Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Squash, Pumpkins, Basil, Oregano, Parsley, Rhubarb and Chives out in the garden. Do I need to be concerned about this spreading to them or the other flowers? What is it and how can I get rid of it? Should I just dig up these marigolds and replace them with new ones or something else? Thanks for any advice!!

I have marigolds I planted by seed. they are all doing great, though the latter seeded ones are slow. No sign of disease. This is my first time with them.

A leaf spotting fungus would be my guess, but maybe somebody else knows.

Spider mites I believe/ Can anyone else see them? I see no webs but I coulda swore I saw a couple black specks resembling spider mites full on plant juice. They do not spare the marigolds I know this because I watched them devour one for fun. They also kill clovers the same way. Usually before it dies there is a thin web of death covering the leaves so .. if not that maybe some root / water issue.

Spray them off with neem oil , if thats the case, diluted in water. Ordinary water works as well if you don't have any neem oil but get a towel handy. Spray off the bottom and the top of the leaves. ^^


Tell me how you have watered this plant. Did you water a lot and it rained? What happened?

Septoria tageticola is marigold leaf spot...

Treat with a copper fungicide...
