Pine needles in raised bed near trees

We have some raised vegetable garden beds and the soil has a sizeable amount of pine needles from nearby trees.

Should I just dig them in and amend the soil with compost or will these needles add to much acid to0 the soil?

Last year my vegetables didn't do very well, but our Northwest summer came late and left early.
