Good Bee News

Hey! After the last few years of infrequent honey bee sightings............I am glad to say I am once again hesitant to walk bare-footed! I have seen an abundance of those winged angels this year!

I have seen bumblebees for several weeks, now--both the big, black headed bumbles, and the smaller yellow-headed ones. Have not seen but a few honeybees. One thing I am seeing this year are the metallic green sweat bees--lovely little creatures! I keep looking around the eaves for the mud-dauber nests, but am only seeing old ones so far. It may still be a little early for them.

It's been a very cool summer, and I think this is discouraging the bees. Bumbles will fly in cooler temperatures than other bees, which is why I'm seeing them, and not other species.

I am in the same kind of boat. No honeybees but a ton of mud daubers, and lots of hornets for some reason.

Do the mud daubers pollinate too?
