2023 What's the Weather like Where You Are?

My new remote thermometer says todays high was 91°. Yesterdays high was 94. Sky was full of nice looking Cumulus clouds all day.

It is 66 degrees now at 6:30 a.m. The temperature seems to be going up and down even over a few days. The high will be around 86 degrees. 89% humidity. There isn't much wind now and the skies only have a few high clouds and no rain is expected. The winds will be shifting from the south, so that will bring more vog and muggier conditions.

Today, around 5 pm, I thought I was in Florida, when I was thinking of going outside, since it had finally cleared up, and gotten sunny, but it was raining harder than it had these last two days! However, it only rained .01" extra, to .51", as it stopped fairly quickly. This evening it started up again, and it's still raining, up to .87" for today. Thunder in the distance, but that can change.

UD - at 11 pm my rain total is up to 2.37", in addition to the .37" yesterday. The most rain I've gotten all year!

It is 72 degrees at 8 a.m. It rained last night and it is still overcast. The forecast looks like there will be more overnight and intermittent rain for the next few days. Most of the rain does come overnight or in the afternoon. Yesterday, it rained for about 5 minutes while I was watering the yard. It is more annoying than anything else. I just had to do something else for a while and go out and water again. Any rain is better than none and the plants rather have rain water any day. It just makes it more humid when the water starts steaming off when the sun comes out.

August overall, was not that bad. It was the ninth warmest on record, but it was much better than it usually is. I still run a fan in evening and the ceiling fan at night.
September is starting out with at least some rain. That is a relief from having no rain at all. It is actually normal for me to have overnight rain almost every night in the rainy season. I was not expecting it to return with the return of El Nino and the fact that except for a brief time after the Dec 6, 2022 rains, there have been moderate of severe drought conditions on all the islands for almost 4 years. It is why there has been an increase in brush fires on all of the islands. I even have to water plants that used to live on rain.

We had over 2” here as well — many mosquitoes yesterday and today. I have to spray the shrubbery with mosquito lift again… (but not yet as the ground is way too wet).

Yes, those mosquitoes were relentless yesterday, when I finally went out there. The final total was 3.44", far more than I have had all year. The plants were wet until about 4:30 pm, due to the humidity, no sun or wind, and brief sprinkles all day! I had to spray myself all over with repellent, then took a shower as soon as I came in - otherwise, I would have looked pock-marked, with mosquito bites!

Pleasant & Sunny Summer Weather.

Our afternoon temperatures in the mid-80's (30°C) however, are running 10-12°f (6°C) higher than normal. I'm always thinking about a first frost in mid-September but it sure doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. Temperatures have been below 50°f (10°C) every September morning so far but not anywhere close to freezing. Still, that's cool enough and late enough in the season to start some plants into a Fall mode.

Got another .24" very early today, and it is cooler than yesterday, but still very humid, and got to 85°. That humidity has gone down in the last couple of hours, and is supposed to stay down, along with the temps, so it should be like fall!

56° this morning & no rain in the forecast. Tomorrow we are going camping on the lake for 3 days.

66° here when I got up, but the main thing was that the humidity finally lifted! I think it was a 53° dewpoint. Even late last night, the dew was building up on the cars, but it was gone early this morning. Only supposed to get to 77°, and the humidity staying low for a week or so. Also, a nice breeze, which we haven't had for a while - just dead, or a storm!

It is 73 degrees at 8 a.m. It is currently raining and overcast. There are scattered showers on the radar so it may be intermittently raining. It is a light drizzle but enough to wet the road. Humidity is 86% and winds are NE 3 mph, so it is a little muggy.

Got down to 58° out back overnight, and still, almost no humidity! Only up to 68° at 11 am, and now the forecast high is down to 76°, so I can't complain.

It's getting cooler where you are. It is 83 degrees at 11:30 a.m. Not much wind, a few clouds. It may rain a little overnight. I have been averaging 0.10-0.20 inches of rain every couple of days.

Yesterday, around 4 pm it started raining, and stopped my work outside, as it got fairly wet, quickly. By midnight I had gotten .43"; add to that, .83" by 9 am, and it is still coming down steady, which is good, as it was very dry in the area before that last rain, and now this one, and there is more to come for much of the day - a line of rain coming up the east coast. Only supposed to get to 75° - of course, the humidity is very high, with all that rain.

It is 76 degrees and it is only 8:15 a.m. The high will be in the mid 80's there are a few clouds and scattered showers on the radar, but that is mainly on the windward side. A few showers may spill over, but it won't be much. I had 0.10 inches of rain in my rain gauge yesterday. I did collect about 8 gallons of rain water in my rain barrel in the last week, so even a light rain helps.

It is 71 degrees, 84% humidity. I rained briefly overnight, but I still have to water the yard. It is overcast and right now feels quite cool. Weird how the weather changes so much in just a few days. Winds are calm now. I can always tell by looking at the palms how windy it is. It doesn't take much wind to move a palm frond. The wind is supposed to be picking up 7-25 mph today.

I woke up dizzy, my eyes are swollen half way shut, TV says, pollen, mold, mildew is extremely high today. It was 56° outside this morning.

It is 73 degrees at 4 a.m. There is a light drizzle and I can hear the rain coming off the roof. The winds are calm, so it actually feels quite warm. The highs will be in the mid 80's. This is the warmest time of the year and there is another month left in hurricane season before it starts to cool off.

Update: At 2 p.m. it was 83 degrees but the wind picked up to 15 mph. It actually drizzled for a long time today.

It's 69° here now, and not getting much warmer today - maybe 73 or 74° - and already getting cloudy. The edge of a storm is coming through, and it's a slow one , lasting into Monday. Expecting 1-3" in this area.

Got only .23" overnight, after 1.52" yesterday, and rain had stopped the whole time I was up, until about 11 am, when it started up again. "Occasional rain" is all they are forecasting for my area, but time will tell. Already warmer than yesterday - 68°, at 11:30 am.

It is 69 degrees, no wind but it is cool. There were some light showers overnight. The sky is a bit hazy, but it should be a nice day.

Hurricanes passing by along the Atlantic coast….

Missed us here but hit some NE areas hard including NYC — sadly affecting all those folks that were flooded — horrendous images, can’t imagine having to deal with all that (I have been fortunate).


Feels a little petty to complain that my garden has been “flooded” ankle deep in the paths and swales that will not recede because the underlying clay subsoil is now saturated.

It’s supposed to be “hot” all this week — low 80’s/mid-50’s°F.

Should help dry out the saturated ground after all the rain in the past several days, and I can get to cleaning up summer crop beds, prepping and maybe planting some stuff to be protected under season extension low tunnels, or sowing some cover crops and have them grow before frost and freeze.

It's 68 degrees at 7 a.m. a bit nippy for me. It will warm up to the mid 80's today. It is sunny and clear now but humidity is 86% so it will be a little muggy since winds right now are 3 mph from the NW. There is some shower activity on the radar, but most of that is falling on the ocean. A few showers may come in later in the day.

Here we go —

Despite today’s expected daytime high of mid-80’s, forecast of mid-40’s°F has appeared for overnight low from Saturday 10/7 to Sun 10/8 and continues for night time temps thereafter.

With the usual 3 degree differential, this will translate to low-40’s for my garden.

10/4 ~

This changes everything: It’s the first stage of Autumn mass migration — end of summer vacation for my container plants — and I only have 4 days to get ready…

It also signals next phase in the season extension protection level for the fall garden.

Today another day of 90° temperatures and Saturday morning 42° is predicted. Our first frost is often Nov 1 to 5. Our first hard freeze is sometimes Thanksgiving. We often have our coldest temperatures of the winter last week of Nov to end of Dec. It is also very common for us to have 70° temperatures Christmas day. Last winter we had -2° that killed garlic Dec 23, we also had 80° in Feb & 85° in March that made all the onions bolt.

I have some lows in the high 40s forecast for Sat & Sun, but the next couple of days the AC will be on again! The temperature will be in the mid 80s, and more humid, as well. The plants can't figure out what season it is! Soon, I'm going to have to trim back my outside plants, and bring them inside.

It is very windy & cold this morning. TV says, 37° and Frost warning Sunday morning. I don't recall ever having frost Oct 8. I am not covering up plants.

Well, it didn't get down past 50° in my back yard, and it is still 57°, and it is almost 11 am! And wind is 19 mph, and that's not the gusts! I got my jeans out (first time since May), along with a long sleeved garden shirt, though I don't need the flannels yet! That rain we got yesterday was just enough to wet things, and be a spoiler, but was only a total of .03". Only a 62° forecast high today and tomorrow, and another windy one tomorrow, but a little less. Even close to 3:30 pm, I hadn't done much out there, due to that wind - hopefully, tomorrow will be a little less windy, though the temp isn't supposed to get any higher.

There really IS a pocket over here — likely due to the unique localized Pine Barrens effect according to a lecture at a seminar.

It went down to 42.4°F this morning according to my garden sensor. 45.5°F official. So I do have to keep the 3°F differential in mind when prepping based on forecasts.

Its getting cold there. I a at 83 degrees at around 1:30 p.m. so for today at least things have cooled a couple of degrees. It will be mostly sunny with the usual windward and mauka shower overnight. winds are light and the air is relatively stable for this week. Humidity is dry 52%. It is warm but not muggy. I am waiting for it to cool a bit more before going out to do a little more weeding in the yard. I may harvest a few more ears of corn.

Officially went down to 43°F this morning, 40°F according to my thermostat sensor in the garden.

Morning like this, a mug of hot ginger-‘dragon’ (lemon) is more welcome than coffee!

Only went down to 49° in my back yard last night, and it's up to 60° at 11 am, but it is still wet all over. My lawn needs mowing again, and, while it has rained very little since last time, this dew is just like rain for it, and it's been every day, well into the afternoon - only those windy days dried it quickly. Today is supposed to get to 70°, and 73° tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll start putting in the garlic, and finish Friday, as it is supposed to rain over the weekend, when I was originally going to plant it.

It’s almost 6:30am and I’m looking at the windows thinking “It’s still pitch black out there…” Looks like sun rises at 7:07 this morning. (Sun sets at 6:23pm — so only a little over 9hrs of daylight)

22 mph wind, misting rain, 53°f temperature feels like a winter blizzard. I put on both winter jackets to go out and feed dog & cat. It is funny we get accustom to 70° temperatures then 50° feels cold but if we are accustom to 30° then 50° feels like a heat wave.

80 degrees at 1:58 p.m. Winds are 7 mph from the west. It is overcast and muggy. I think I lost at least half a pound of sweat today.

38°F this morning after forecast of 40.

“Warming up” over the weekend but down to forecast of 41°F Mon morning and 37°F Tues morning which — I’m virtually certain — will mean frost.

Gotta get most of the outside prep done today including digging and potting up, and then prep indoor spaces to receive the incoming migration of summer vacationers back into the house for the next 6~7 months !

But some will be covered to push through since we’re still looking at 70°F days after that and to finish “dormanting” (a made up word to mean they will be allowed to go dormant for easier maintenance over the winter. ). Once it really gets colder, the dormanting containers can go into temporary holding/quarantine areas that will stay cold.

And some that are better off going inside at this point will go into the temporary holding area for quarantine over the weekend and on Monday.

It was 37°f (3°C) at 5:30 AM, 79°f (26°C) at 3:30PM.

STILL, there's been no first frost ... ...

We MAY have some rain by Sunday but it has come down to me "believing it when I see it." Ran the sprinkler in the yard a little bit but I had brought in the hoses and sprinklers and stacked the irrigation pipes at the big veggie garden. With 42 degrees f differences in morning and night and 12/100th of an inch of rain over the last 3 weeks, it continues to be good weather to hang clothes out on the line on laundry days ...

My Spiral Garden remote thermometer sensor registered 33.3°F at 4am and then 32.6°F at 7am.

No time to check on the garden this morning because I’m BUSY. Maybe later in the afternoon.
