Identification problem

Hi all,
This is my first time using this forum, so I hope I do this right.
I would like some help to identify this shrub please.
This shrub is about 6 Ft. tall and it dies back in the fall. The flowers have a musty odor and the stalks are bamboo like.

Answering your own posts! Trying to put me out of bidness?

I'd watch that one; the rest of the genus are thugs and some are the worst weeds we deal with around here...

Funny you should say that Scott, cause I was just thinking that the plant itself looks just like the knotweed (related) that I pull out of my gardens all the time! Mine has pink flowers though. Every little piece of stem and root of it forms a plant!
However from what I have read about this particular variety, it is said to not be invasive ?!?!? At your own risk I guess. :?

We have Japanese Knotweed in our neighbourhood and it is VERY invasive.

I wonder what the Apple and Knotweed Pie is like. :?: :D

Japanese Knotweed is actually on the noxious weed lists, and is extremely invasive! :x

Yes, some in the perennial world are still peddling this genus, but I think they should STOP!
