Wisteria

I was given a small piece of a Wisteria plant that I have planted. It has gone crazy and is growing strong. My only problem is that it is just a short bush. Do I prune out the bottom area so it will grow up? It has vines coming off of it but still does not climb like I thought. Any ideas?
Thanks, TSKB

Not an expert on Wisteria but, pruning in general I have some knowledge on. If you want toe plant to grow up, prune the lower foliage off the sides of the plant. If you want to thicken the lower foliage into that of more like a bush, prune the top foliage.

The great thing about this place is that if I have given you any misinformation, someone will jump in and correct it.

Wisteria is not for the impatient. It takes years to develop a good vine and it can take up to a decade to see bloom. Opa's advice is sound; just don't expect miracles...
