Is it possible to get rid of spiders from garden area?

It may sound crazy, but Spiders freak the junk out of me!
(sometimes I cannot kill them because I might miss and that wouldn't be fun!)
haha well, enough of my craziness.
I was wondering if there is something I can put around my catnip area
that won't hurt my pets!

3 out of 5 of cats are allowed to go outside (supervised)
and when they play in the catnip they bring in nasty little spiders and slugs!!

I don't know what to do
I just cleared the area of all the dead nip and leaves and there were like 8 spiders running around! (I had to kill 5 with my mini rake and shovel!)

I don't know if mulch would help or if the bugs would just live under it.
I'm hoping the solution isn't that I have to live with it!

Thanks for any advice!!
Niki

Any poisons that you could use would harm your cats. I know you don't like spiders, I never used to like them either and I can't stand snakes but, both snakes and spiders are very beneficial in the garden. My cats used to eat any spiders they'd find so, your cats might solve your problem for you!

I should have known that I'm going to have to live with it!
Now that it's getting warmer I've been coming up with all sorts of questions!
And you're so very helpful!
Thanks,
Niki
