How do I kill this stuff?

Trying to figure out how to kill the grass in this picture that is sprouting through the plants without killing the plants.

The best way is to get down on hands and knees and pull by hand. There are chemicals that are grass specific, but if you only have a little bit like the photo, pull it out by the roots.

Yep. Do it after good soaking rain or after watering and soaking thoroughly. Grasp at the base and pull steadily directly upward slowly, trying not to break the grass -- the whole thing should come up with a divot of soil. If the grass breaks you will need a weeding tool or something like a flat screwdriver to get under the roots.

Basically, yes.

The "weed" in the 2nd photo looks a bit like mint though -- are those square stemmed? You will know right away if you bruise the leaves.

The groundcover you are working with is vinca minor/periwinkle. It is pretty capable of eating up the ground on its own. So if you weaken the other plants growing through by removing the upper growth, even if you don't manage to uproot all of them, most of them will have a hard time growing back again. But mint might be a serious contender.
