Dahlia propagation, cuttings

I finally got around to clearing out my plant stockpile and decide what dies and what gets moved into the house or stays in the slightly heated shed. I ran across a pot of dwarf dahlias which still had some lovely green branches. I probably should have googled dahlia propagation first. Anyway I took some stem cuttings from the branches after I cut them from the tubers. I put the cuttings in some peat pellets and set them in the bathroom. (warmest room in the house) But according to everything I read I should have taken newly sprouted cuttings in the spring. So I don't know if these will do anything except rot.
