Spider plant

Hey all ! Happy friday ! :D. Hubby bought me a spider plant I have it in a 5 inch pot right now and its almost root bound. My question is why are the tips of the leaves turning brown? I am on well water that is hard. I just gave it a really good drink with bottled water. Aswell its hanging in a NW window. Any tips for success ? My mother had one and it was huge with babies. she had it for 20 years on the same water. Thanks !

Spider plants grow fast-You need a bigger pot. The tips turning brown indicate that the plant is not getting enough water to sustain itself totally. During the summer, they need lots of water because their roots get big quickly.

Thank you ! I just put it in another pot with 3 more inches to grow so by end of summer it will need a bigger pot ? And is well water that is hard okay ? Or will it clog up the "pores" of the plant ? Can I cut some of the roots in the future if they become to pot bound?

It may need a bigger pot by summer's end-you just have to watch it. I can't answer the question about well water, but I would think it would be ok. Try saving rain water, which is best.

You may see build up if salt or calcium/lime deposit along the soil line when using hard water. This may also accumulate at the base of the plant. You should flush out the soil once in a while with distilled or rain water.
