Dry, sandy soil

Need some help. We have a flower bed running along a fence which borders our neighbour's. Along the fence are 40-50ft high conifers which suck the ground completely dry of moisture. Most of the plants are just " surviving " and not actually flourishing, how can we improve this ?

Add a lot of organic matter to help retain moisture. You will need to fertilize and water the beds heavily. As long as the conifer roots are there they will continue to suck up nutrients and water.

It may not just be the moisture, but also shade at the wrong time of day from the conifers. You might consider, replanting with flowers that thrive in low moisture.
