Anyone else having problems posting pictures?

I seem to be having problems posting pictures from my computer. I can post them if I upload them to photo bucket but if I try to post them by browsing I always get file is too big error even when all I am trying to post is a single picture. It used to work before, but I keep getting this same error.

Yes, I always have that trouble. Any of my pictures I have taken, always tells me too big. I was used to doing the photobucket thing, before we supposedly had the ability to upload from our computers, so I just still do it. But yes, it would be nice if we actually could just upload a picture we took to here.

Just caught sight of Joe walking by! I don't have a rabbit's foot so I went out to rub Olivia, the chicken. He didn't come through your neighborhood did he?

HG is doing okay for me.

it's easy to reduce the size of a picture in the Paint program you may have on your PC.

How big is your photo? Hover your cursor over the photo and wait for the tooltip to pop up with the size information. Alternately you can right click it and choose to see the "properties" and it will show you the size. Alternative to that simply open the folder where the image is and scan it as a "list" (as opposed to medium or large size icons) and it will show the size in the columns.

Find that info and let me know.

I tested a few of the pictures and the images ranged from 1.25 to 1.37 mb

I just tested a different batch shot with my new camera and they are a lot bigger. 3.7 to 3.93 MB.

I found paint but I don't know how to use it. When I tried to open the picture it said there was nothing that fit the parameters. I pasted it to clipboard and got a picture but when I tried to resize it, it got worse and the file size increased to 271 MB.

A quick solution,
https://www.picresize.com/batch.php

I'll look into this. But it would be helpful to know the size of the original files. ;)

thanks Roger. This is some of the problem that I had with paint. Do I select % reduction or pixel size and what number?

The largest individual photos with the new camera said 3.93 MB with dimension 3456 x 4608 if that helps. The one I tried to resize ended up with Dimensions 461 x 346 271 KB and it is tiny and the edges have all these very large pixel sqauares almost to the point of the photo not even being recognizable. Actually on an earlier attempt it was unrecognizable.

Try pixel size. Around 600 px (width or height) should be fine I think.

Did you change something already, webmaster? I was going to show you examples and the first ones I tried popped right in with no trouble. Everything I was trying was pics from the same camera, so I don't know why some come out smaller. But some of the pictures still do pop up "The file is too big, max allowed size is 2 MiB"

One of those, for e.g. is just an ordinary picture of my butterfly garden. Properties says it is 2.71 MB (is MB the same as MiB ?) dimensions 2592 x 1936, resolution 72 dpi. from partners apple Ipad. I did end up posting it via photobucket and I can get that link. The file name of it comes up C:\users\[my actual full name]\ etc, which I don't really want to post here. If it makes a difference, I can PM it to you.

Yeah, I'll have to fix the MiB. It should be MB. If the average size of pics is 2.7 mb to just under 4 MB then I can increase the size of allowable pics to 4 MB.

Yes! This is a picture that would not post before. I was worried that it still would not post, because Properties says it is 4.01 MB. But apparently that is close enough, because there it is. :)

Thanks Roger for fixing it. I don't have anything to post just now, but maybe someone will try it and report back.

See above. I did try it and report back that I can now post pictures that I couldn't before.

Thanks, Roger!
