Scarecrow!

Wifey and the girls put a Scarecrow in one of the growing plots. When I'm out there working I get a glimpse of this thing, it's like someone standing there, can't seem to get use to it.

Re: Scarecrow!

No, but the birds will:

I couldn't find it, but I have seen a picture of a scarecrow with a whole row of birds perched along its outstretched arms.

They are ornamental, but not functional, unless you can rig one up with a motion detector that flashes lights or makes loud noises when something sets it off.

Re: Scarecrow!

I have a friend not far from me that made a scarecrow out of some old overalls. His garden is on a very busy corner (sorta city, sorta not), He dresses him for the season and everyone loves it! During Nov-Dec he is Santa, holding an old artificial X-mas tree (one year he decorated the tree with turnips as the ornaments), He's dressed up in Mardi Gras beads for Mardi Gras-holds an Easter basket for easter. Had bottle rockets for the 4th of JUly-it is really neat!

Re: Scarecrow!

Wow.... I would have thought the windmill arms would have made it a lot more effective at scaring birds. Do they go all the time or only when the wind blows? Anything that is constant, the birds will get used to.

Humans are dime a dozen. They've seen 'em all.
