baby lady bug?

I was taking a bath and found crawling along the edge of the bathtub something that looked like a baby ladybug. It wasn't the alligator looking larval form, but looked somewhere in between that and an adult. It was significantly smaller than an adult and had a little bit the shape of the alligator, narrower than an adult and pointed at the end, but colored like an adult and spotted and smooth, not segmented like the "alligator" larval form.

I thought maybe there was an instar between the larval form and the adult, but I looked it up and charts don't show it. Anyone know what this might have been? (Ladybugs do come in the house for the winter)
