How to root a bamboo sucker

We have put it in water for now. Any other tips, suggestions, or ideas?

Your division should come with some root.

Well, we just pulled it out. Does the brown nubs on the bottom count?

What kind of bamboo is it. Running bamboo puts out runners like grass. They are the easiest to dig up and they are also the ones you don't want to let get away.

We used to ge bamboo to grow by getting a mature culm (we had green stripe bamboo), and watering inside the hollow culm. The bamboo sprouts at the node and will grow that way.

If you want to take a division of a running bamboo (and thats the commonest type of bamboo) you'll need to dig a little root with a branch.

A splash of rooting hormone wouldn't hurt either.
