Re: Is all aloe is medicinal?

that seems like a difficult question to answer, since there are over 500 species of Aloe and they vary pretty widely. Aloe vera ("true aloe") is the one most used medicinally, especially topically for wound/ burn healing.

Wiki has this to say:

Aloe contains a number of medicinal substances used as a laxative and purgative. The medicinal substance is produced from various species of aloe, such as A. vera, A. socotrina, A. chinensis, and A. perryi.

So clearly there are some other Aloe species that are used medicinally, besides A. vera. Whether that means that every A. species would have healing properties or even would be safe to use, seems doubtful. Is there a particular Aloe species you are interested in?
