spiked worms
I have found several red/orange worms with dark spikes covering their bodies on my Passion Flower vine. any clue what they can be and how to keep them from attacking my vine:?
The caterpillar of the Variegated Fritillary is red-orange with stripes of alternating black and white patches with six rows of black spines. They feed on violets, passion flowers and a variety of plants in other families.
Just copied that from a butterfly site. Is it this one?
Caterpillar hosts: A variety of plants in several families including maypops (Passiflora incarnata), may apple (Podophyllum peltata), violets (Viola), purslane (Portulaca), stonecrop (Sedum), and moonseed (Menispermum
Just copied this from another site. Got any of these other than the Passion flower that you wouldn't mind them munching on? Seems a shame to kill them when you know they are a very nice butterfly.

If you do intend removing them wear gloves. The spines can be irritating.
