growing perennials from seed

I bought some seeds and decided I would try growing some perennials from seeds. now I'm wondering if they are going to grow since I don't know what I'm doing! any tips on what to do?? I put a few in today in hopes I can get them to grow! the seeds are sooooooo tiny! plus the directions said to cover with 2-3 times the seeds thickness. when the seeds are so tiny, how do you know if they are buried too deep? any tips and ideas on how to make sure I'm not wasting my money buying these seeds and making sure I make them grow well???
