Grass seed

I was wondering how long grass seed was good for. I found 2 opened packages in my basement that are probably more then 20 years old.

The question is NOT whether YOU have seen old grass seed or not. The question IS how long does grass seed last in the seed form.

well if kept dry I can't see why it would not last forever - it seems to hang around for years in the soil and not germinate until you cultivate....

Yes I have heard of 2,000 year old mustard seed sprouting when planted. Anyway I went ahead and planted the seed. It took 3 weeks of watering, it is sprouting grass. A neighboor said to put the grass seed in the frig nrxt time for a few weeks b4 planting. The seed thinks it is winter and will grow sooner when planted.
