Schefflera yellowing

Please help! I live in Southern California. Although the "winter" was colder than usual this year, it's pretty temperate where we live by the coast, and it never froze here. I have a Schefflera plant in my backyard, at least 25 years old, which I planted from a pot 8 years ago. It's been growing wonderfully, and is now about 10 - 12 feet high. This spring, many of the leaves are yellow (they eventually fall off) and the green leaves don't look as dark as they did. There are a few spots of dark brown on some of the leaves. What can I do to restore it to good condition? Thanks for your help. :)
