Roasted Pumpkin seeds

Sat Nov 03, 2012 11:59 am

Okay I either make this thread or join along someone elses every year.

I have made roasted pumpkin seeds so many differant ways it isn't funny.

I made several batches this year that came out great.

THIS time I dehyrated them for several hours. Than melted a lot of butter enough to coat them really good. Than mixed them with spices, mine were salt, pepper, some homade chipotle pepper and a little garlic from the garden.

I cooked them for 25 min mixing at 12 min at 325 degrees.

Simple easy perfection.

Oven is beeping now gotta go

So I was looking at all the squash seeds from making veggie chili last night and thinking really I should roast these for eating. But they were all gunky with squash threads. So I ended up composting them.

How do you clean your pumpkin/squash seeds to get them ready to roast?

Incidentally my veggie chili used up the LAST of my ripened indoor tomatoes :( After this it is 6 months of store bought, ugh! Used almost the last garden onions. Fresh garden veggie season is just about over for me.

RBG I pull them from the culprit and squish the seeds in my hand. The seeds should almost shoot out the side of your hand. I than flick them in a strainer tossing the remaining gunk into another bowl for compost.

This gets rid of most of it. Than I use the sink sprayer to remove the rest. Pulling out big chunks as I see them. It doesn't take long and they are mostly clean. A little pulp is okay. I highly suggest using a dehydrator, or at least cooking them right away. I lost 5-6 pumpkins worth last year to mold after letting them sit for a couple days.
