Weed or a plant?

Not sure what this is and looking for a little help. I bought this house in December and the only thing she told me was there were a ton of tulips and daisies in there. Obviously theses aren't tulips and daisies since those are differnent looking. So I am not sure if this is a weed or something else.

One pic is a close up the other is a wider shot.

Any help would be appreciated before I clean out the rest of the leaves.
I'm located in Minnesota if that matters.
Thanks in advance.

Hi mm12463 :D

I would say weed seeing as they are so prolific. Can you dig one up and just see if there is a white bulb attached to the end. If it is what I think it is you will have to dig down quite far.

It looks like a weed to me, unless it's an unusual form of daisy... but do dig one up and see if it has a bulb.

Okaywent out about 2 minutes ago. Fun todo the in the dark!

This picture measures about 7 inches, bulb. The roots are about 5 of those inches. And I think I misspoke - I think it was daffodils she said are in there which are blooming. So not daisies. Girlfriend told me I used the wrong name this weekend when she saw them.

And before the pictures get in the way. Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it. I have no clue what I am doing but kind of fun.

Thanks for all the help. I didn't get chance to grab one of the asters and see if it was aromatic. Was pooring when I got home, actually pretty nasty storm in the Twin Cities. I'll let you know Tuesday or Wednesday when I grab some.

its sort of smells but nothing strong. I'm a little stuffed up so who knows. I'll leave it for now and see what happens. I cannot imagine it is anything bad considering there is a rather large area in that garden with the stuff.
