There's a tree in the livingroom....

My mom got this tiny 1' high plant a few years ago and it now looks like this.

That's a 20' high ceiling and the plant is starting to bend sideways. She doesn't even remember what the plant is but I doubt it grows outside in zone 5 so she doesn't know what to do with it. It's also still growing in it's original pot, probably the reason it's been browning a bit lately, because we can't figure out how to transplant something this big. I'm not even sure we could get it out the door. It can't stay like this but we're out of ceiling so what to do with it? Any way to make it shorter without damaging it or making it look odd?

Hi Aqh,

You have a huge Dracaena, probably 'Janet Craig'. The nick name is corn plant but it doesn't grow corn. You can cut the trunk wherever you like and root the cut ends. Wherever it's cut new growth will appear from the top and you can root the bottom ends. You might want to cut several sections of trunk and root them. Then you could put them all in one large pot. Take a look at these pics and care info.

Brown tips can also be caused by flouride in the water.
