Advice for transplanting Rosemary

I live in Eastern North Carolina and have a Rosemary plant I recieved for Christmas. I need information about transplanting it now, in December, or should I keep it inside until spring. HELP PLEASE. I don't want to lose this one!!

Hi Madhatter,

What a lovely present. Most Rosemary varities aren't hardy beyond zone 8 or 9. You don't say what your hardiness zone is, but Eastern North Carolina has zones 7 and 8.

Even if it could survive winter in your zone, it's too late in the season to plant out now as it would need 4 to 6 weeks to establish it's roots. It has probably been grown in a greenhouse so the change in temps at this time of the year might shock it severely and it might not survive.

Thanks, Newt. I'll over winter the plant this year.
I'm in between zone 8 and 7, so I'll try transplanting next spring.
Thanks again
