large ants nests in grass

Hi could anyone help during summer mths a large ants nest has appeared under my grass causing large raised humps under grass and is taking the goodness out of the grass causing it to die does anyone know a good way of getting rid of these ants as it is driving me mad

Try searching Ants with our little search engine on the top of the page. There are several "green" ways to rid yourself of them.

From memory, I believe that Cinnamon repels ants.

Lambretta Man, I'm guessing that the RHS site wasn't much help. I didn't think it was, but was hoping you might at least be able to id which ants you have. You could sprinkle some diatomaceous earth around the opening.

Boric Acid is a oral toxicant to humans, mice and rats and Boric Acid may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Therefore, safety goggles and gloves should be worn while using sucha product.

Inhalation of dust may cause : headache, coughing, dizziness or difficulty in breathing.


Ingestion may cause: Nausea and vomiting.


Finally, prolonged contact may cause skin irritation.

Exposure to humans is recommended by Material Safety Data Sheets to be limited.

I would advise against using Boric Acid when benign alternatives are readily available and easy to find within this site.

I use Diotomaceous Earth also, I like this because it is not harmful to the birds, other wildlife, humans, environment, etc. Janet
