When to Plant Winter Pansies

Just had some winter pansies delivered. As they are only small shoots, when can I plant them in my tubs outside?

As you can see I'm a newby at gardening so advise would be apprciated.

It depends on where you are.

Here in N. GA (zone 7) we plant pansies mid-October. If your days are not too hot I'd go ahead and put them out. If your days are still in the high 70s, I'd only put them in the shady areas. In Florida we put them in mid-November, or even around Thanksgiving.

Hope that helps!

No.

If you know that nursery to be reliable and responsible, then yes. BUT... a lot of the box stores just bring in whatever is pretty and who cares if it is in the right zone, or the right time of year? People buy what is pretty if they know nothing about plants.

I'd check the smaller/independent nurseries and see what they say.

Well I work at Wyevale, and we don't put anything out that isnt plantable, Or if it does it has instructions telling you what to do.

But yeah it is true to ask if your not sure.
