Books

Hey Gardeners,

I'm just starting to get into plants and everything. The thing I realize is with some plants it's not just as easy as put it in a pot and grow it.

Theres the soil conditions to take into account (Ph, compaction, drainage, etc), fertilizers, pruning, pests........... kinda overwhelming.

I have the basic supplies- Ph meter, moisture meter, peat moss, pearlite, general fertilizer, and ammonium sulfate & lime.....

The question I have is- what is some good literature to get to know plants even more- I want to learn as much as I can about growing plants.

Any suggestions for some books I should pick up?

Thanks,
-D

My favourite gardening book of all time is:

Gaia's Garden

By Toby Hemenway

Check your local library, it is usually on hand. And it can be found at most book stores if you really like it. It's all about plant relationships, companion planting, water saving, permaculture and the rest of it.

Another good book for the west coast of Canada and the Northern United States is:

A Year at the Garden Path

by: Caroline Heriot.

Very useful book and is a 365 day guide to organic gardening.
