NO Monsanto!!

It has just been brought to my attention that Monsanto basically owns Burpee seeds.
I will not  NOT  NOT  NOT be buying any Burpee seeds now.
Who ELSE is owned by Monsanto? Where is it SAFE to order seeds from??

There are a lot of forums and blogs repeating this information and not one of them links to a definitive source for this information. Unless a site posts a link to an authoritative source of information please consider such information as rumor. ;)

Hoovers.com is a company that lists information about others company. According to the Hoovers page about Burpees, Burpees is privately owned.
The family of third-generation seedsman and CEO George Ball Jr. has owned the business since 1991.
The company was spun off and the original ball company was bought by Seminis which is owned by Monsanto. Burpees sells some Seminis products but it is not clear whether or not Burpees is owned by Seminis or Monsanto.

If anyone has an authoritative source of information then please post it.

I'm relieved. And embarrassed for believing everything I read some days  BUT what does this mean?

I visited the website of monsanto. Then I visited a few more websites. Now I'm more confused than I was before....
are Jung seed genetics and Jung seed two different companies?? And Seminis deals Burpees seeds and not the other way around? And the list of seeds supplied by seminis/monsanto by Territorial is available/you can request not to receive those seeds.

I'm starting to find all this a little ridiculous. Do I have to grow OP everything and save my own seeds from EVERYTHING? It's certainly starting to look that way. And the only seeds I really know how to save are maters :(

Some more food for thought....https://www.countrysidemag.com/issues/90/90-2/Jerri_Cook.html

and one more
https://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/person.asp?personId=764992&privcapId=1054569&previousCapId=519021&previousTitle=W.%20Atlee%20Burpee%20and%20Co.

Seminis might not OWN Burpee, but the same guy runs both companies.
Nuff said!

If you want to drop Burpee from your private shopping list, do so for specific, logical reasons. You may have missed this recent discussion:

There is a several-year-long history re. Monsanto and genetically engineered seeds, as well as court cases involving Monsanto, genetically engineered seeds, and growers whose fields have been found to be cross-pollinated/contaminated (depends on your point of view) by GE seeds. Monsanto takes the stance that those growers have used Monsanto's technology without a license to do so (!) and takes them to court for financial settlement.

That's one piece of it.

I just did a search of the site on the phrase "genetically engineered." Several threads, of varying levels of science vs. passion (some with both), were returned.

That would be a good place to start your education about this very hot topic.
