Which type of soil to buy

The house I have just bought had a fully paved garden. I have removed the flags but I am not sure which type of top soil I need to buy for the boarders. The ground is mainly clay Any advise would be appreciated.

If I were you I wouldn't buy topsoil. You can make your own, incredibly nutrient rich, biodiverse soil by simply spreading mulched up leaves over the areas that you wish to garden in followed by manure. The following spring, you will have amazingly nutrient rich soil that is crawling with all the good organisms. This soil will retard any disease organisms and your plants will grow like mad.

If you live near an ocean, add some seaweed to the mix.
