Hi,
In my lovely patch of day lilies I have a vine that is coming up everywhere and is wrapping itself around everything. It grows so fast, whenever I pull it up it's almost grown back again the following day. It hides right next to the day lily stalk and then curls itself around the stems, eventually choking it. I tried investigating but I couldn't find a match. Please help me figure out what it is. Then if anyone has suggestions for how to kill it without killing my day lilies along with it. I heard you can rub something on the leaves, but I'm wondering since the vine curves around the day lily stems if the day lily would become contaminated if the vine is carrying poison through it. Pics below. Thanks ahead of time!

Bindweed! Sort of like wild morning glory, but hideously invasive and will take over everything. It spreads by seeds and by roots and root fragments. Whenever you pull it, you inevitably leave root fragments in the ground, which just sprout right back.
here's an article about bindweed control-- check out the section on Least Toxic Herbicides, most of which are organic/ natural:
https://attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/bindweed.html#least
If you are using something like that, you are right about painting it on.
Otherwise if it is in a limited area, you can just keep pulling and pulling (and digging out as much of the root as you can) every time you see it. It will keep trying to sprout for a long time, but if you never let it leaf out it eventually will give up and die.
If it is really out of control and taking over a flower bed, as a drastic measure, you could dig up the daylilies, then dig up the soil and sift out every bit of bindweed root (cynthia_h did this to get rid of a bermuda grass infestation, but it would work for this too). Once the soil is clean, replant the daylilies, which are very tough and won't mind the moving about too much.
NEVER EVER EVER let this stuff flower and set seeds!

It looks like morning glory. The seeds will lay in the soil for years and not sprout then when you till the soil the seeds grow. Heat from the sun triggers the seeds to grow from what I have noticed in my garden. You can till the soil and more seeds will grow. Till it again and more seeds sprout. Every time you till more seeds grow. There can be a 1000 seeds from only one plant and the seeds just wait for the right time to grow. If you have a morning glory chances are you have more seeds waiting to grow. Just pull the plant out by hand if you see more plants pull the out too. I pull my morning glory out by hand they never grow back. I saved a quart jar of morning glory seeds year before last they make some very nice purple flowers.
