New house garden ideas

My husband and I bought a house last August. The previous owners planted a lot of stuff, I am not sure what are weeds and what are flowers. I have a hill in the back yard I would like to plant either a veggie garden or flower garden. I also have an area near my front door I want to rip out and redo, I have no idea what to put in its place. It has a jackson vine that I have pulled down. Any suggestions?

If the Jackson Vine is the Vine that is at the front of the house and you want to place another vine in it's place, Clematis is nice.

Though, looking at the colour of the house and lay of the yard, I think that a conical conifer of some sort would look nice there. There are some that have a sort of silvery colour to them that would offset the darkness of the house a bit. Perhaps some evergreen shrubs below the tree.

If I were you, I would talk to a landscaping professional from your region as they have a wealth of knowledge pertaining to what grows best in your area, what would look best in your yard and so on.

Vegetable garden sounds nice, will it be in the shaded area of the back? That might not work so well, if possible you may want to do some heavy pruning of the trees before attempting a Vegetable garden.

The vine that is on the front was a Jackson vine. I want to replace that whole garden area. There is a small plastic pond in the middle of all the green. I plan to rip it all out and start over.

I do like the blue moss cypress. I might see if I can make it work at the ends of the house.

The only space I have to put a vegetable garden is on the small hill in the back yard. It is shaded. Would a flower garden work better? I have also thought about terracing the slope of the hill. I can not find a good picture of that process online, so I am not sure how it will look.

Yes, you could put some shade plants on the mound instead. I would go and talk to some long term staff at your local nurseries.

You know, a rhodo would look nice in that garden at the front of the house as well. Maybe a passion flower or two growing on a trellis. Endless options there.
