Nice post! Sometimes I've made up a bag of extra garden produce and taken it over to one of the little old ladies in my church who can't garden any more. Such a little thing to do and it just made her day! :)

You have inspired me, I have a sweet little old man that lives just down the street from my house. Iv heard rumors that his younger wife is verbally abusive to him. I always see him out watering his lawn but his bed's are pretty bare aside from the bushes. I think when my garden begins producing I'll make him up a basket of veggie's and fruit and maybe even some fresh egg's. I bet he would like that.

Now that's funny. Had to look up dumb cane.

"Dumb cane (especially D. seguine) gets its name from the temporary speechlessness that occurs after chewing a piece of the stem. Juices of the plant contain oxalates and other substances that irritate the mucous membranes and cause swelling and inflammation of the tongue and throat."
