What is this? Weed or plant?

This thing is growing pretty quick and is quite uniform in shape. Pretty big for April, but didn't want to pull it until I find out what it is. It's about a foot tall already. Weed? or plant? What is this ???

Where is it growing? Northern Hemisphere? Europe? United States? Canada? Ireland?

Which state/province/region?

Etc.

Many plants resemble one another, but are region-specific.

We are in Virginia (US), not sure what zone :D

And if it is a plant, does anyone know what it is?

It's a curious enough looking plant and I would keep it if I found it growing in my garden.

I've no idea what it is though. It's short, mounded, and the top growth appears to be flower structures. Has it developed any more?

The leaves remind me of Zinnias, I think, except these are narrower, and of course, the whole plant is too compact. Maybe more like Calendulas.

Definitely not Calendula. Calendula has a fuzzy leaf.

Still working on it
