Any idea what this is?

I moved into this house in the fall, so this is my first spring with the lawn. I noticed this last night, and had a friend take some photos of it. It doesn't seem to be a mold or a fungus. I would like to know what in the world it is? It is very different from anything I have seen before. I would also like to know how to get rid of it before my entire lawn is covered in this bright yellow stuff.

In the top right corner you can see where it is faintly yellow, it is spreading.

Wow. It kind of looks like pollen. Someone will come along with a good answer!

Oh, I forgot to mention I live in Salem, Oregon area. If that makes a difference. There is a cedar and douglas fir tree in the same yard, but it wouldn't make sense why this is just in one spot in the center of the yard and the trees at the edge of the yard. Pollen is as good of a guess as fungus or mold. I am getting curious upon what exactly this is, other then a mystery to the normal person and strange looking.

I have new photographs. It has grown in about 18 hours difference from the above photographs.

I have also realized it must be some form of fungus because there are rotting roots from a cut down bush of some type.

That's funny, I was just going to say that the first picture looked like some sort of fungus. Though, you'd have to get it under a microscope to see if it really is.

Try a magnifying glass.
