Adding mothballs to garden??

Hey all perhaps someone can let me know. I have had a very frequent cat enjoying his time in my garden... so I heard that if yu add mothballs it will make them stay away!! so I did , I added them direct to my garden, then I planted it, but I have noticed that my pansies now are dieing, does anyone kow if it is due to the heat, or the mothball, or even the cat urine in the soil.

Please help me if you can

My initial thought is no but, look at this site to confirm my assumptions:

I never advocate using pesticides as the tend to cause more problems than they solve.

Thanks for asking.
