What is coming out of my bromeliad's flower spike??

My bromeliad (I believe a Vriesea) has had its flower spike for a long time now. The spike has begun fading in color, and now there's several green things popping out of the red flower spike. Here's a picture:

What is this? And what should I do about it?

Those are the filaments and anthers (the pollen-producing parts, i.e. male parts) and the stigma and ovary (the seed-producing part, i.e. female part).
