How to Prevent Green Algae in Water feature/falls?

Hi
I have just installed a water feature/fall in the back garden and have noticed in the pools were the water builds up before it falls out, the bottom of the pools are getting green algae in. Is there anything I can put in the water to stop this happening.

It's always a struggle. It helps if your water feature is shaded - the more sun on it, the faster the algae grows. There's stuff you can buy which is supposed to be harmless to any plants or animals in it, which just turns the water blue. The idea is similar-- to be a sun filter, keep the sun from reaching the algae. You can take out 20% of the water at a time several times a week and replace it with fresh, which also helps keep it down. And of course good filters help...
But I haven't found anything perfect.

it's sold under names like Pure Blue and Blue Vail.
And of course pond needs to be well aerated...

fish and/or snails or other invertebrate life. the only way to win this battle, without using chems or poisons, is other life. I've been a aquarium enthusiast/keeper for a long time, and haven't had a bit of algae in longer than I can remember. and this is all for one reason only. a complete ecosystem...
