Help me identify this flower

I cant figure out how to post a picture of the flower but it looks like a pom pom Its a blueish purple and is not fluffy but more spikey. If you have any ideas please let me know[/img]

OK; here's a stab in the dark. If the pom-pom is at the end of a very long stalk, it could be an Agapanthus ("Lily of the Nile"):
