Lots of liquid sunshine! It has been raining off and on for most of the week. I have tried to go out into the yard a couple of times, only to be driven back inside when the rain suddenly decides to start up again. It is windy again and it is 69 degrees. It feels colder. The rains although frequent, have been relatively light. There is no flooding although the ground is saturated. The wind is still blowing pots and bags around the yard. The palm trees still lose fronds, but the other trees have been assailed by the wind so long that the ones that are going to break, already have. If the wind speed picks up, more branches may be lost.
The road has been cleared from the rockfall about a month ago. The rain is washing out the temporary fillers in the potholes so the roads are bumpier and I have to dodge some potholes along the way.
Well I'm just a kid again doing what I did again singin' a song
When the red red robin comes bob bob bobbin' along ...
It was 22°f this morning after yesterday's wind blew the warmth away.
By 11am, it was 40°! "How can it be possible that the Weather Service says the high will only be 46?" Well, immediately the clouds rolled in - we were both wrong. Me, for imagining that it would continue to warm quickly. The thermometer only made it to 45°. Darn! They always know better than I do ...
Now, the wind will be back for several days and blow the cold away. And, so it goes ... until Spring!

Lots of excitement last night at 1:45 am, lightning, high wind, rain, sirens every where. Nashville TN was hit by a tornado, 21 killed in Nashville TN, 3 killed in Lebanon TN, several people missing, 85 miles of damage I-40 is closed for 70 miles. We are having a very mild winter this warm weather always makes tornadoes. I don't like living in Tornado alley. 3 more months of tornado weather. Yesterday I was thinking this is perfect weather for tornadoes. Weather goes is cycles this is going to be another spring where every night we need to stay up watching TV News to see if a tornado is coming our way. Last spring we had a very close call tornado touched down 1 mile north of us at I-24 & 840 interchange several cars were blown off the highway but not much damage. Tornado last night started 20 miles east of Nashville stayed on the ground all the way to Cookville TN then turned North East for about 100 miles. TV claims tornado was on the ground about 200 miles. We are not seeing or hearing anything on TV about damage east of Cookville TN. Nashville TN, Mt Juliet TN, Lebanon TN all look like a war zone TV News is telling everyone to stay home roads are blocked everywhere. We are fine and we have electricity. I have been trying to sell my 4800 watt generator we have not needed it for a few years this generator saved our butt several times with no electricity several times for 1 or 2 days. Should I sell the generator or keep it, soon as it is gone I will need it. This generator runs the whole house including AC. I have a feeling winter weather is too warm we will have more tornadoes until late May. Sun is up lots of storm damage pictures on TV now. Nashville TN has a nice Mayor he is a real person. WOW helicopter videos on TV now are amazing it looks like the war zone in the middle east. Police say, if your out rubber necking adding to the traffic jam you will be given a ticket. Looters are out stealing they are being arrested and taken to jail. This will probably be on nation wide TV News this evening.
I-40 is now open for all traffic leaving Nashville TN. I-40 remains closed to all traffic coming to Nashville TN. I am not hearing anything about I-24 & I-65 traffic into Nashville TN. Power is off every where, no gas, no food, available. People are already driving to area towns to buy food and gas. 1000s of people are homeless.

This disaster is a lot worse than it appears. There are 1000s of families that have no place to sleep tonight. Home owners insurance will put some of them in motels but power is out everywhere motels have no electricity either. People have no vehicles to drive to another town were there are motels with power. Renters have no insurance and no place to go and no vehicles either. Vehicles were destroyed too. Many houses are totally gone nothing left but the wooden floor to sleep on. Donations are coming from everywhere some people have blankets to keep warm tonight sleeping in the yard or on the wooden floor with no roof. Some people have tarps to cover up if it rains again. Lots of power companies from other TN towns have sent workers to help repair power lines. TV says some places may not have power again for more than a month. There is already a housing shortage in this area and no place for all these 1000s of homeless people to go. Lots of people are being sent to the Fairgrounds & sports stadiums to sleep tonight with no electricity on cement floor. Many people have no clothes they blew away in the storm. Someone needs to donate several 100,000. flashlights. People are driving long distances 300 miles to bring food & blankets. No one can buy anything in the disaster area there is no power, can't buy gasoline or groceries. Grocery stores in our town are selling out fast people from Nashville driving 35 mile to buy food & gas here. All schools and business are closed no one can work where there is no power or no building. Schools are closed until they can find a place to have school again. I sold my generator to a man that said his house is one of very few still standing in his neighborhood they will have electricity tonight. Lowe's, Home depot, Walmart, hardware stores are all sold out of generators in our town. It will be dark here in 30 minutes. 24 dead & 50 people missing.Vanisle_BC wrote:So sorry to hear that Gary. We get hardened to things we see on TV but it's different to hear from people who are directly affected. Good luck and keep the generator!

@Gary, I'm so glad you're alright! But oh those poor people! I will keep them in my prayers. I wish I could send them some things, but I'm not out of this storm yet. I may need supplies if something bad happens here. Right now the rain is pounding on the roof. Lightening and thundering.
Two or three years ago a tornado came very close to hitting my house. It was an iffy tornado, it would touch down, move along some then go back up in the clouds then come back down. It rattled my house, blew the swingset off the porch and knocked over the greenhouse all while I hid in the closet panicking.

It is official 25+17+18+1 = 61 people died in the TN tornado March 2020. It is so sad 5 children killed in the same house in Cookville TN. If I was 30 years younger I could help but at my age if I tried to help they would need to rescue me. TV News today was very encouraging 1000s of out of state people came all the brush, trees, lumber, etc was put in piles and burned it looks 100% better than yesterday in several places but still there are 1000s of homeless people. There is a hot line you can call to help.
The wind and rain are back. It was really whooshing down the street last night and I could hear the tree branches cracking in the wind. My bottle of 3 in 1 spray is almost empty and it has been blown off the table three times this week so far. It started to clear up this morning briefly, but it is getting more windy and overcast again.
I did go to the garden and even though it was raining lightly, the bees were still out foraging while they could. This is typical weather for this time of year, except for the wind. That usually peaks in January. Surf is 3-5 ft along the North and East facing shores, they will go up to 10 ft tomorrow. So, that means the winds will be stronger too. Surf heights are measured along the face of the wave. So, 5 ft waves will be head high or a little less.

It is 48 degrees, clear blue sky, sunny and very nice this morning. Dog is awake time for breakfast but cats are not here yet. Cats are late they need to learn about daylight saving time. Easter Lillie's have been up for 2 weeks but no flowers yet. Birds are every where they have been here for 2 weeks. The huge 60 ft tall maple tree has buds & starting to grow tiny leaves. A dove is calling for a mate on one of the limbs about 40 ft up. The Red Head wood pecker is so funny & fun to watch it goes from limb to limb then it sounds like a tiny jack hammer over and over. Blue jays are here too but being totally silent, they usually make a very loud squawking sound. Robins and many small birds are here too. 2 small birds way up high having sex I wonder if they will make a nest in 1 of our bird houses. A 30 ft tree is covered with 1000s of red berries I think it is a holly tree. Last night sky was clear full moon & star show looks nice. Burn barrel is still smoking from yesterdays fire. I have never seen so many pine cones fall from 53 pine trees. We filled burn barrel 3 times an cannot tell any pine cones were cleaned up. We burned a big pile of pine needles too. I put out bird seed then set in the patio swing to watch the birds with the dog. The warm sun sure does feel good it is suppose to warm up to 64.

Sunny and HOT!
82 says my digital thermometer. My incorrectly designed greenhouse felt like an oven despite the fact the door and bottom vents were open. I'd like to have a few words with the idiot that doesn't believe in greenhouses having a back door or window and the heat vents be near the top of the building. Not the bottom. Heat rises. Not sinks and flows out the bottom.
I had no choice but to pull out all the baking plants and set them out in the cooler air flow.

Unseasonably warm, but it's been like this for the entire winter this year. I believe we had only one night where it got even close to freezing, and even then it was for such a short time I never moved a single plant indoors and they all survived without a hitch.
My lettuces and a few other winter plants have already bolted and were pulled before the beginning of March. Most of this past winter, or what passed for our winter, it was a cross between running the heat to take the moisture and chill out the air when it was in the 40's and 50's outside or running the A/C to take the moisture out the air even though it was in the low 70's outside.

It is raining again as we are being hit by two converging fronts from the west and the south. There is a flood watch until tomorrow. It has rained most of the night and the day, but there have been some brief breaks in the weather. So far, the wind pushed the rain onto my entry and lanai and I had to close the windows because the rain was being driven inside. So far, no thunder and no flooding. However, the weeds are growing again.
We had thunderstorm and even a tornado warning. Tornadoes are very rare. Waterspouts and dust devils, we do get those. Even the broadcaster had a nervous laugh. Few homes here have a basement and the older houses for the most part are single wall wood. The newer houses are made from engineered wood. (There have been many recalls on that). Luckily, at 12:00, the worst of the storm has cleared Oahu. It is heading toward Maui and Molokai. Kauai did see some flooding on the main highway and 2 inches of rain an hour. The rain is continuing with brief periods when it actually slows down, but it is expected now to continue through tomorrow at least. I am grateful for a roof that doesn't leak and the shingles have stayed on.

I covered my plants frost in the forecast Wednesday. 30s at night, 50s & lower 60s in the day. 70s for 2 weeks before this. 80s for 2 weeks before that. Last frost is April 20. A week of low temperatures on the way. Soon I can plant seeds directly in the garden.
Forecast colder Thursday night 34 degrees.

Scary storms early Easter morning. Poor children will have to either wait, or egg hunt indoors. If you don't hear from me after tomorrow, I will have blown away. So Happy Easter in advance, everyone!
Future forecast showed a 38 degree night next week, I'll have to cover up everything. Stupid weather. If it's gonna be warm, it needs to stay warm.

Weather report for tomorrow night is bad, rain all day, stores all day, 5" of rain expected. Strongest stores 11 pm and 2 pm. 70 mph wind, hail, rain, lightning, tornadoes. It is going to be in the 30s all next week at night. I should have covered plants before dark tomorrow I will have to do it in rain and mud. Maybe I be lucky no rain when I wake up it be nice to have time to cover plants. I see no option to upload pictures?TomatoNut95 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 8:46 pmScary storms early Easter morning. It was about 6 or 7 something this morning when the storm struck hard. Thunder, wind, lightening, heavy rain...all that good stuff. It hailed a bit then got a tornado warning on my phone and power went off so I headed for the closet. But it calmed down pretty quick so I just stayed in bed until things quieted. Generator's on now.
Went outside and checked everything. No damage done, I don't think; plants were just drooped over. None broken.
Temperatures the next few night are in the low 40's which means covering everything. Guess I better hunt for pots, sheets and blankets.

It rained very hard all day then 3 pm it rained much harder. Weather radio went off severe thunder storm warning with large hail, 70 mph wind, and tornadoes. Then the BIG storm hit. Phone rang relatives in Chattanooga yelling in a panic big storm is very bad. It never stopped raining 5pm bigger storm came through electricity went off 45 minutes yard & garden under 3" of water. Rain never stopped but it let up a bit then 7 pm another big storm. Still raining 8:40 pm another storm mostly, rain, lightning & thunder. 9:05 pm all clear, high wind, tornado warnings until 10 pm. About 2 am another storm front will be here. I am leaving bedroom blinds open & window up 1" when next storm comes I can lay in bed watch lightning & hear, wind, rain, thunder. I love to watch mother nature but it scares wife to death. Stupid TV News says, Tornado collides with covid-19 and Louisiana News says, Tornado hits pandemic, WTF does that mean?

They received no direct sun. The standard daffies are across the yard in not much of a sunnier location but they do have several hours each day. Still, they are about a week later to bloom.
They all have it a little rough because it freezes almost every morning. They have had snow and hail. There has been a lot of wind. A friend had her tomato starts in an unheated greenhouse. It was 27° this morning and she lost them.
But, a recent afternoon was 70°f and the warmest temperature so far this year. I had our greenhouse completely open with the exhaust fan on. Lots of sunshine ... except where those daffodils are blooming

Gary, so glad you're alright. Lol, If you seriously enjoy listening to wind/rain/thunder like that, I know some nature cds and apps I can recommend!
Is your power still off? Mine is. Generator has been running nonstop for over 24hrs. Can't wash clothes or dishes, I'll have to take care not to get dirty and use plastic silverware.

Up to 1.96" now. The wind is nowhere near as bad as earlier, though still in a tornado watch, and severe TS warning for a while longer. This area didn't get hit as hard as some others - the S Jersey shore and DE got the brunt of it. It's getting brighter out there now, so maybe it's over in this area.

The weather is quite nice. It is 71 degrees now and is going up to about 78 degrees max. It will be warmer down the hill. There are patches of clouds and only a slight breeze. Occasionally a short sprinkle. The High pressure system is keeping most of the wet weather away to the north of the State. I have to water my garden today.

Severe storms through the night. Power went off and it got pretty intense. Black sky, almost constant lightening, thunder that sounded like cannonfire in the yard, strong winds, a little hail...all that good stuff. Maybe NOW I can get stuff planted since after this storm there's a break for at least a week.
Mother nature doesn't seem to be giving some people any breaks. The pandemic on one side and floods and tornadoes on the other.
Here, it is getting warmer and muggier. There was some rain in the early morning. I am waiting for it to dry up a bit more. It is mostly overcast. The trades are turned on today and that helps.
The beaches have been reopened for exercise but there are still idiots who don't listen. If they keep sitting on the beach, it may ruin it for everyone else. The fines have been raised and the police are handing out citations.

That's exactly why we won't see the end of this for FOREVER thanks to idiots who are stupider than dirt and think all this Covid is baloney and they won't wear masks or gloves.
My mom had gone to clinic to get something for pain and she told me the young woman doctor wore no mask or gloves. Also that before examining my mother, she said the dumb girl-doctor was too close to a sick-looking young guy in a vehicle still wearing no mask or gloves. He probably had the Covid. And just like the school worker I saw on the internet that was taking a meal out to a vehicle. Worker wore no mask or gloves and people in vehicle wore none either. Stupid people.

It was my mother describing her experience at the clinic to me. She said the young doctor girl, whatever wore no mask or gloves when she was examining the sick-looking young guy that was outdoors in a vehicle that could've had the Covid. Then she examined my mother still wearing no masks or gloves. At least my mom said she wore TWO masks and I think gloves when she went inside. People that don't wear masks or gloves when they're having to get around people all the time are basically DUMB and they are the ones who will keep the Covid alive forever.
