The orchid shows used to charge a nominal fee, $2, but all are free now but do ask for donations at the door. I belong to this club and the Mililani club so I get to see the show from the ground up. Litterally, displays take 3-5 hours to build and about 30 minutes to take down.
The magnolia tree was really great and lucky that it was blooming in time for the show.
The orchid season starts with the Kunia and Windward shows and ends with the Honolulu Orchid Society Show in October. There will be one or two shows a month during the summer. Since different species of orchids have their seasons, there will be more or less of some orchids at different shows. Kunia and Windard have their shows within a week of each other so we have the same orchids. Honohono orchids will only appear regularly at these two shows and it is the only orchid specifically awarded at this time of the year. Phaius also only bloom in the early part of the year.
June-August will be the best times for dendrobiums and catleyas.
