Chinese elm leaves turning yellow and curling! HELP!

Hi everyone!! Need help!!

I bought my boyfriend a chinese elm bonsai as a gift. We are both not experienced and this is our first bonsai plant. Today we noticed that the leaves started to turn yellow.. and some have curled up. Now I have done some research and I believe that the issue may be OVER watering! My boyfriend uses a mister and sprays the leaves 2-3 times a day... and keeps the bonsai in the morning sun.. and in the shade in the afternoon.

Does anyone have any good, simple tips to revive the tree? I think that he needs to stop watering it that many times.. and to check that the soil is moist.

Thanks :)

Misting is NOT watering. Misting once a day is useful for keeping humidity around the leaves, but it has nothing to do with watering.

To water bonsai, put it in the sink and gently pour water on the soil from the top until it runs freely out the drain hole in the bottom. Let it drain until it quits and then do it again, to be sure all the soil has been moistened. Let it sit until it is finished draining and then put it back. Then don't water it again until it needs it (not on a schedule)

Here's some tips about watering and fertilizing: https://www.helpfulgardener.com/forum/vi ... =36&t=1479

Your bonsai appears to be sitting on a table or kitchen counter or something. Was that just for the picture? You understand that this is a tree, not an ornament. It needs the same things trees need, water, nutrients and SUNLIGHT. Morning sun and afternoon shade is OK, if it is direct morning sun.

People tend to mildew at the humidity trees prefer. Trees tend to mummify at the humidity people prefer. Never the twain shall meet.

The daily misting really does help with that. Not perfect maybe, but better. All my houseplants loved being misted....
