Hello,
I just recieved a bonsai that was purchased at Home Depot in Ontario. It has opposite, compound leaves that are dark green and glossy on the upper surface. There is a bit of leafy material on the branch separating each pair of leaflets on the compound leaf. Can anyone give me any pointers as to what tree species this might be? I assume that it is a common bonsai as it was purchased at home depot.
Thanks very much for your help!

Meg,
Hello and welcome to the forum. Ordinarily this is where I would chide you for not posting a photo as it is very difficult to ID a tree from a few words. In this case, due to your good description, I'll go out on a limb and take a shot at it.
Zanthoxylum, commonly called Chinese Pepper.
