New bonsai-clueless
I just adopted a 20 or so year old bonsai tree and am completely clueless. First of all I believe it is a golden gate ficus. My main questions are does it look okay? Should I prune it and does it need repotted? Any helpful information would be much appreciated. I want to take great care of this tree as it was a gift.
Congratulations. At twenty years old it is a true bonsai. It does need trimming, but I would contact your local bonsai society first, they will usually help you to cut, shape and wire it properly.
It is a bit overgrown so, I am assuming it probably needs repotting too. They can help you with wiring the plant to the pot and getting the right media and fertilizer schedule. It looks like you have it outside in the sun. Congratulations on picking the perfect spot for it.
