Well the general rule is the width of the trunk = the hight of the pot, but really its personal preference.

Yeah,
after studying bonsai magazines , books and web pages ive been looking at what types of tree go's with what type of pot I'm not sure I'm right but I think most would agree any coments would be great
I understand this to mean you were looking at pictures of trees and taking note of the pots they were in [Not a bad idea], As opposed to studying the relationship between the pot and the tree [A better idea-It is not as black and white as this by any means. Not that I think that this sounds that way - Just saying]. This by no means indicates that they were in the best pot for them.

Terms like 'heavy substancial' [sic] seem too subjective to be helpful and None of the math rules [The Golden Section] nor the issue of masculinity/femininity in either the pot or the tree is addressed at all.

There are some contradictions to found in the list above IMO.

IE:

I do not understands the 'rim' bit.
young tree-----------------------------------pastel glazed colours
I don't know why a young tree would be potted up.
coniferous------------------------------------unglazed

young tree-----------------------------------pastel glazed colours
...And if I have a young conifer?

powerful/rugged/thick trunk---------------------heavy and deep
smooth trunk/upright-----------------------------shallow simple
open/sparse---------------------------------------shallow simple
A Bunjin style tree is often a combination of these.

Keep researching
